June 5th - Halfway to Cambridge

Our hotel - the Halfway Motel & RV park was decent.  Denise was able to park her RV not too far away.

The ride today was 57 miles.  Here are some of the highlights:

Crickets – we hit a spot in the road where there were thousands of crickets.  Denise could hear them crunching under her tires.  We unsuccessfully tried to avoid killing them.

Bear – Denise saw a bear not far from a ranger station.  It was a juvenile cinnamon colored bear. A ranger drove by and we told him.  He said the bear hangs around near the ranger station all the time trying to catch turkeys.  He never does…but he keeps on trying.

Tough climb – It was a very long and steep climb near the Snake River Reservoir.  We crossed over into Idaho and changed time zones.

Wildlife (besides bears) – Several people saw deer; Denise saw turkeys fly away; Osprey – Tom, Michael and Tim debated whether or not they saw an osprey, a golden eagle, a bald eagle, or two of the three.  Some of us find it amusing to think of three color blind brothers identifying birds.

Beautiful stream running beside us the whole time – first the Powder River then the Snake River.

Cambridge House B&B – nice B & B – probably too nice for skanky bikers coming in at the end of the day sweaty and stinky.
Other bikers – Trans America bike race 2017 has kicked off.  We are seeing cyclists  both men and women – lots of foreigners - they're interesting to talk to.  One previous winner has completed the trip in just 18 days.

Washing clothes gets interesting sometimes – we had to lay our clothes out to dry – especially interesting in a fancy B&B

  1. deb and i have your route plotted on our US road map. Fun to follow along even though we can't tell where the hills are..though I am sure you do! Truly sorry we missed the 3 brothers bird discussion.

    1. Hi Brent & Deb - sorry for the late reply - internet in these parts is frustrating. As you know...Keegan brother discussions are truly entertaining & can last all night. Fun! To my dismay, uphills are everywhere - we definitely need more downhills in this country! Thanks for continuing to follow us. We'd love for you to join us again before the end.
