June 11 - Powell, ID to Missoula, MT

It was a cold, sunny Sunday morning when Eric, Michael and Gloria (today's blogger) pulled out of Lochsa Lodge.  They had enjoyed a delightful breakfast with other bikers - Jeff and Mick - and Mick's wife, Diane.

Today's ride was 58 miles.  It was 38-ish degrees.  We wore lots of clothes in the beginning to stay warm, then we started to peel almost immediately.  Our actual climb today was 1800 ft. over Lolo Pass.

Denise, Trina and a very nice lunch were waiting for us at the top.  And...we were joined my very good friend, Linda from Colorado. It was so great to finish climbing and have not one, but four wonderful sights to greet us.  Oh happy day!

After taking a picture with the Montana sign behind us, we enjoyed a nice but windy descent into Lolo, Montana.  As we were descending, we saw lots of moose crossing signs but no moose.

Since it was Sunday, traffic was not too bad.  Drivers were still extremely polite.  We saw lots of motorcycles and vintage cars.  Once in Lolo, we were able to take a bike path almost all the way to our hotel in downtown Missoula.

Linda rented a car, so we were able to drive to Trina and Mike's house for dinner.
On the way, we were surprised to see an 80 mph sign on the freeway.  We had a fantastic dinner that included homemade spaghetti & meatballs, roasted vegetables, salad, and delicious desserts provided by Denise.  We have been so spoiled!

Trina & Mike live outside of Missoula and have a large plot of land.  In addition to their 2 dogs, we saw live deer, hummingbirds and another bird species.  We also saw several mounted animals.  Their son is a hunter and has the stuffed bears and bear skins to prove it.

We are sad to say goodbye to Denise.  She has been much more than a SAG.  She has been a cheerleader, a medic, a chef, a bird and plant identifier and much, much more.  We will miss you, Denise!
