June 2nd - Prairie City to Baker City

Day 10 – Prairie City to Baker City – 67 miles - blogged by Eric (who is really good at including statistics and stuff)

The route today was three bumps (Dixie, Tipton and Sumpter – named because of the southern leanings) which provided 4000 feet of altitude gain and the Powder River which provided a nice gradual downhill to Baker City.

Tom Eng is still with our group.  While we were out riding, he picked morel mushrooms. We are trying to figure out a way to cook them.

Half-day SAGgers were Gloria, Tim, Valerie & Tom Keegan – excellent as always.  Tom provided touristic sagging today.  He included a State Park, Bridge over the Powder River and bike drive down to the river, and an air conditioned site (in his van) near the river.  He and his riders was very excited about his location picks.

Our hotel is near I-84 - not ideal - but we were able to have our usual Happy Hour on the grassy area near the rooms. We had an ok dinner at the truck stop across the street from our hotel.  It was listed as the best restaurant in our area.

Tomorrow is a rest day.  We plan to rest and catch up on errands.  Sunday we head to Halfway, OR. Life is great!

  1. Dr Mast, the garmin maps are pretty cool, especially like the aerial. Sounds like a great way to see the USA. I'm going to need some SAG tips though - didn't even know there was such a thing as a touristic SAG!!
