Today we left Harrodsburg at 8:00 AM with warm weather and overcast skies. The forecast called for rain, and we were ready with bright yellow rain gear. Monday morning at 8:00 is a popular time for workers to leave, so we politely shared the road with numerous pickup trucks and their trailers. Fortunately, all of the bourbon had previously fully metabolized, and we were very alert. The terrain was very beautiful, with lots of ups and downs - we almost quit wishing for the downhills, as we knew what was to follow. Points of interest and photo ops included an old covered bridge being rebuilt; a small corner fenced in farmyard with a menagerie of rabbits, goats, dogs and a potbellied pig;
a pasture full of Kentucky bluegrass-fed Texas longhorn cattle;
and an unplanned detour ride through Berea College as we got to our destination of Berea around 4:00 PM. We had a few dog encounters along the way with a few close calls, but none of us had to resort to pulling the dog spray trigger. Fortunately, the heavy rain never materialized and we only had light showers off and on. All in all, it was a great day to share the road on a bike with friends.

Plenty of rain overnight, but it was not raining when the crew pulled out about 7:45 am from the Baymont Inn. We breathed in the freshness of Lush green fields. One rest stop was at the yard of an abandoned house that had a huge welcome bikers sign and makeshift shelter for coolers inviting us to refill water bottles (we didn't ;). A field of long horn cows begged us to take photos. Then we took a short detour to view Herrington Lake just before biking across a bridge that crossed the same lake further down.
Adorable bunnies in hutch at a rest stop. We pulled into Berea - a pretty big town with a college and art center. Bibi and Ron hosted a happy hour in their huge room complete with jacuzzi--no we didn't have a soaking happy hour! Great pizza and sandwiches at Papalenos.
